En el pasado EANS 2015 Annual Meeting que tuvo lugar del 18 al 21 de octubre en Madrid se nombró como Presidente Electo de la EANS al Dr. Jesus Lafuente Baraza, sustituyendo al profesor Andre Grontenhuis, siendo el primer español que lidera esta organización.

Entre los objetivos del nuevo presidente está la formulación de recomendaciones a los países miembros para normalizar la atención neuroquirúrgica, que incluye planes de formación y la creación de infraestructuras básicas para una atención de calidad hacia los pacientes.

El equipo directivo dirigido por Lafuente también pretende aumentar el perfil académico y científico de la institución e intensificar las relaciones con las sociedades hermanas en todo el mundo.

Iniciará su etapa como Presidente de la EANS en el Annual Meeting de la EANS en 2017.

Se licenció en Barcelona en Medicina y Cirugía en 1992, y desde entonces hasta el año 2005 vivió en Reino Unido, donde se formó como neurocirujano y obtuvo la especialidad en Neurocirugía, trabajando además como médico adjunto en diferentes hospitales.

En 2003 obtiene el “Premio Mario Boni” al mejor trabajo de investigación presentado en el Congreso de la Sociedad Europea de Investigación de Columna Cervical (CSRS).

De 2005 a 2008 fue médico adjunto en el Hospital Josep Trueta, donde pudo contribuir a la continuidad de la endoscopia neuroquirúrgica, el tratamiento de columna integral, la base de cráneo, en el tratamiento de la oncología neuroquirúrgica y la pediátrica.

Actualmente trabaja como Medico Adjunto de Neurocirugía en el Hospital del Mar de Barcelona.
