Graduado de la Universidad de Ottawa, Facultad de Medicina en 1983,

Neurocirugía en la Universidad McGill.

Miembro del Colegio Real de Médicos y Cirujanos de Canadá en 1990.

Durante su residencia en Montreal, el Dr. Lozano obtuvo su doctorado de Medicina Experimental en 1989.

El Dr. Lozano se unió al equipo de Neurocirugía del Hospital Toronto Western en 1991.

Actualmente es profesor en el Departamento de Cirugía, y titular de la Cátedra inaugural del Presidente Ronald Tasker en neurocirugía estereotáctica y funcional de la Red de Salud de la Universidad.

También tiene un cargo en la Cátedra de Investigación en Neurociencias de Canadá.

Su investigación principal e intereses clínicos se encuentran en el campo del tratamiento neuroquirúrgico de trastornos del movimiento y registro mediante micro-electrodos en el cerebro humano.

La estimulación cerebral profunda (DBS) ha sido recientemente investigada como tratamiento para la depresión mayor.

Uno de los objetivos propuestos para esta aplicación es la circunvolución cingular subcallosa (SCG).
